This presentation will provide a basic overview of federal sentencing practice and procedure. The presentation will cover the three aspects of federal sentencing: 1. The statutory maximum and mandatory/minimum sentencing penalties; the federal sentencing guidelines; and the sentencing factors contained in Title 18 U.S.C. s. 3553(a)(1)-(7), otherwise known as the “Booker factors.” We will also walk through a basic sentencing hypothetical, which will incorporate all of the aspects of federal sentencing.
