Read The Florida Bar News story here. \n\nJames E. Felman has concentrated his practice of law in the defense of complex criminal matters and related civil litigation for over 30 years. Mr. Felman represents clients in federal and state matters in every phase of the criminal process — investigation\, trial\, sentencing\, appeal\, and post-conviction proceedings. He has represented clients in a wide range of matters\, including allegations of bank fraud\, health care fraud\, mail and wire fraud\, securities fraud\, public corruption\, environmental crimes\, antitrust violations\, synthetic/illegal drugs\, illegal gambling\, child abuse/pornography\, and murder. Mr. Felman has also devoted a significant portion of his professional efforts to legal reform and policy work. He has testified on an array of topics before the United States Senate\, House of Representatives\, and Sentencing Commission\, and has given more than 100 presentations on criminal justice policy issues. He is a Past Chair of the Criminal Justice Section of the American Bar Association. From 2014-2017 he served as a member of the Steering Committee of the Clemency Project 2014. Mr. Felman is a graduate of Wake Forest University\, B.A. cum laude\, 1984\, and Duke University\, M.A. Phil. and J.D. with high honors (Order of the Coif)\, 1987. Following law school\, he was a law clerk to Judge Theodore McMillian of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.

She serves as the Anne Shea Ransdell and William Garland “Buck” Ransdell\, Jr. Distinguished Professor of Law and as the director of the Prosecutors and Politics Project. Her teaching and research interests include criminal law\, the structure of the criminal justice system\, criminal sentencing\, and child pornography crimes. Hessick is the author of multiple law review articles\, essays\, and op-eds on plea bargaining\, the powers and selection of prosecutors\, Sixth Amendment sentencing rights\, and criminal statutes. Her work has appeared in the California Law Review\, the Cornell Law Review\, the L.A. Times\, the UCLA Law Review\, and the Virginia Law Review\, among others. She founded the Prosecutors and Politics Project in 2018. And she currently serves as the Reporter for the ABA Criminal Justice Section’s Sentencing Standards Task Force. \nHessick attended Yale Law School\, where she was an editor of the Yale Law Journal and winner of the Potter Stewart Prize for the Morris Tyler Moot Court of Appeals. After graduating from law school\, she clerked for Judge Barbara S. Jones on the Southern District of New York and for Judge A. Raymond Randolph on the D.C. Circuit. She also worked as a litigation associate at Wachtell\, Lipton\, Rosen & Katz in New York City. Before joining the faculty at Carolina Law\, Hessick taught on the faculties at Arizona State University’s Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law and the University of Utah’s S.J. Quinney College of Law. Zedalis is the Director of Trial Practice at the University of Florida Levin College of Law\, and an Assistant Director of the Criminal Justice Center. She is the Co-Chair of the Gerald T. Bennett Public Defender/Prosecutor Trial Program and has served on the PPD faculty for 24 years. She teaches trial practice\, pretrial practice\, and intro to lawyering\, and has also taught mental health litigation and the criminal defense clinic. She is the faculty advisor for the trial team. She serves as Chair of the Peter T. Fay Jurist in Residence Program. She has practiced criminal defense for thirty years and continues to do pro bono trial work as time permits. She was formerly an assistant public defender in the Fifth and Eighth Judicial Circuits and ran a solo law practice from 1998 to 2003. She has handled all types of criminal cases\, including capital cases\, appeals\, and post-conviction proceedings in addition to trials. She has lectured in the United Kingdom\, Poland\, and Costa Rica in the areas of American trial procedure\, evidence\, and criminal practice. She has been called as an expert in Florida criminal law in the Canadian Court of Immigration\, and her article on “Justice Worthy Closing Arguments” has been published by the ABA Trial Evidence Committe
